NAIROBI SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP: Technical Guidance Notes and Environment Health and Safety (EHS) Best Practices for the Downstream Petroleum Sector

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in consultation with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Oil Industry has finalized development of Technical Guidance Notes (TGN) and Environment Health and Safety Best Practice (EHS BPs).

The guidelines will provide practical advice that will help players in the petroleum sub-sector to avoid pollution, to operate safely, minimize waste and comply with the requirements of the law and industry best practices.

The Technical Guidance Notes and EHS guidelines are targeted for use by:

  • Petroleum Terminal Operators
  • Petroleum-based Thermal Power Plant Operators
  • Petroleum Transporters
  • Petroleum Service Station Operators

The Commission now wishes to subject these guidelines to stakeholder consultation before rolling them out for use by the industry, regulators and other interested parties. A stakeholder workshop will therefore be held in Nairobi on Wednesday 12th April 2017.

The guidelines may be viewed on the Commission’s website through the following link: TECHNICAL GUIDANCE NOTES & EHS BEST PRACTICES - DOWNSTREAM PETROLEUM.
